Janet and Randall Drake 2008-2009 Region F Couple of the Year
After a short tenure in Colorado Chapter L, we were blessed with the honor of being selected as Chapter Couple of the Year. Being somewhat new to the organization, we asked, “What do we do?” Our new “family” simply said, “Just keep doing what you have been doing.” Well, we did just that. Having fun, learning motorcycle safety, and absorbing all we could about GWRRA. Then, at our 2007 Rally, we were again honored by being selected as the District Couple of the Year. Again, we asked, “What do we do?” Our new “family” again said, “Just keep doing what you have been doing.” Well, we did just that. Having more fun and helping others in our Chapter. For all those that wanted one, we made Chapter Flags for their motorcycles, and among other things, led groups to other chapters to “borrow” their mascots, and gave away Colorado flag pins to whoever we met. Then, in August 2008, we were honored, and are proud to have been selected, the Region F Couple of the Year for 2008-2009. We have stopped asking so much, “What do we do?” We are, however, continuing to do what we have done, but on a larger scale. That said, on a more local level, we know that through the Couple of the Year Program, GWRRA chapters can expand their camaraderie to other chapters and evolve into a bigger community. While each chapter has its own “personality,” getting to know others helps bring a breadth of understanding and a more solid foundation to our home chapter. Our first priority then, is to demonstrate that visiting other chapters, districts, and regions will help build GWRRA into a stronger organization. Also, never can one say enough about safety while on motorcycles. We watch and learn from others, both formally and informally. Not a ride goes by that we don’t keep a watchful eye on others and try to learn something new—either how to caress a turn, stay alert, or keep out of trouble in general—we can all learn from each other every day we ride. We are very excited to be on our journey to Tulsa by visiting other Regions, Districts, and Chapters as time permits. Should you see us out and about anywhere, please introduce yourself. We have a Colorado flag pin waiting just for you!
